Real Neat Blog Award Tag

Thank you so much to Halsdoll for nominating me for this one! If you want to read rants about video games I’d recommend checking out her blog. Now, onto the questions.. I’ll leave a list of them at the bottom so that you can answer them too if you want to. I don’t really know who I would nominate for this so if you want to do it, feel free to do so.

  1. What is your earliest gaming memory?
I remember playing on my brother’s Nintendo 64, playing Super Mario 64 and Beetle Adventure Racing. It was really fun, and I was the first of us to finish Super Mario too.
  2. When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging on this platform in May of 2016, I just wanted a place where I could share my thoughts and reviews on things. I never imagined my blog would grow to nearly 800 followers. It might not be much to most people but it is a lot to me.
  3. What feature did you wish any of your consoles had that they currently dont?
Hmm, maybe like a holographic/hologram interface? Kinda like Jarvis in the Iron Man movies.
  4. Name a movie that you wish had a video game made after it and what  developer would you want to make it and why?
I don’t watch a lot of movies so I’m not really sure. But there are a few games I would have loved to see as movies, like the dragon age games or elder scrolls, for example.
  5. Do you have a games room/corner? If so, let us see it and show your favorite thing in there?
I don’t, sadly. I totally will have when I have my own place to live though.
  6. Do you have a child or a pet? Which character do you name it after?
I have two cats but neither are named after video game characters. I used to have a betta fish that was named after Vincent Valentine.
  7. What keeps you going when gaming?
My wish to escape reality for a while. And if I’m playing scary games it’s just the adrenaline fueling me, to be honest.

Here’s the questions so you can copy them too.

Playing through my steam library #3 – B part two

I got the idea for this from a series on YouTube called Steam Train where they try to play through everything on their steam account. I have way too many games anyways so it is a bit ambitious of me to take this one but I’ll give it a go. I won’t be playing through sandbox/strategy games because some of them never end, and it would take ages. So, I suppose this is just notes for myself, so I can look back and see which games I did play, which ones I enjoyed and not. If I didn’t like the game, I have most likely removed it from my steam library for good so this will be like a cleanup too.

Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain

Image result for blood omen 2 legacy of kain steam

This wouldn’t launch at first, and when I did get it to launch properly, it kept crashing on the intro screen. So the game is probably too old to work on Win10 or any of the compatibility modes. 0/10

Book of legends

Image result for book of legends steam

This was one of the first puzzle games I ever played through fully. It’s a hidden object and puzzle game in one. It’s not too varied, and the ending was kinda a cliffhanger but I do have fond memories of it. I’ll give it a 6/10, for nostalgia’s sake.

The book of unwritten tales

Image result for the book of unwritten tales steam

This is a point and click adventure game, and it’s one of the largest I have played in the genre. It has about 20 hours of gameplay, and a looot of puzzles and items that you need to combine so it’ll keep you busy for a long time. The graphics are quite good, the dialogue is quite humorous, I’d give it an 8/10 because no game is perfect.

The book of unwritten tales: The critter chronicles

Image result for the book of unwritten tales the critter chronicles steam

This is set to be a prequel to the previous game. Ironically I accidentally played this first anyways, even though I bought the other one first. It has the same kind of style, but follows a different story, the character in this you meet later in the other game. I have to give this the same rating as the other, because it’s just as good. 8/10.

Borderlands 2

Image result for borderlands 2 steam

This is an open word first person shooter, and I think the series is most known for it’s cel shading visuals. It’s kinda cartoon-y, but still not at the same time and I think it’s a really good game. I’m not exactly good at FPS games, but this one is quite enjoyable and not too difficult, the story lines are quite humorous too. I’ll give it a 8/10.

Borderlands: The pre-sequel

Image result for borderlands the pre sequel steam

This was released after B2, but the story is set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, and it focuses on the antagonist from B2, Handsome Jack. It plays pretty much the same way as the previous games. So if you liked Borderlands 2, you will like this. It’s also worthy of a 8/10.

Botanicula

Image result for botanicula steam

This is a point and click adventure game following the story of five cute little creatures. They all live in a magical tree but a spider like monster is sucking the life out of it so you have to find the last seed to replant the tree. The visuals are stunning, and although the puzzles can be a bit tricky, it’s a really good game. I’ll give it a 7/10.

The Bridge

Image result for the bridge steam

This is a hand drawn, black and white puzzle game. Gravity plays a big part of the puzzles since you have to rotate the world in different directions to reach your goal. It is fairly well made for being an indie game and I’ve had lots of fun with it. 7/10.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpents Curse

Image result for broken sword 5 steam

When I first purchased this in a bundle, I expected it to be a RPG from the title, but it is another point and click adventure game. You investigate the theft of a painting and use the mouse to navigate around. It looks fairly well made, and figuring things out can be quite challenging. I have, however, played better point and click games. 6/10.

Brothers: A tale of two sons

Image result for brothers a tale of two sons steam

This game is very interesting, because you control two characters at once. It’s recommended to play with a plugged in controller to make it easier. It follows the story of two brothers, and the in game language isn’t “real”, so to say, so you mostly just see the visuals. It’s a beautiful but sad game. 8/10.

Bully: Scholarship Edition

Image result for bully steam

In this game you play as Jimmy Hopkins, a guy trying to rise in the ranks in his school, Bullworth Academy. It’s fairly open world but you also complete missions, whether its beating someone up or finishing classes. I think the game is a lot of fun, and even if it’s an older game (released in 2006), it’s still considered a good game now. 8/10.

Have you played any of these games?

Playing through my steam library #2 – B part one

I got the idea for this from a series on YouTube called Steam Train where they try to play through everything on their steam account. I have way too many games anyways so it is a bit ambitious of me to take this one but I’ll give it a go. I won’t be playing through sandbox/strategy games because some of them never end, and it would take ages. So, I suppose this is just notes for myself, so I can look back and see which games I did play, which ones I enjoyed and not. If I didn’t like the game, I have most likely removed it from my steam library for good so this will be like a cleanup too.

The Banner Saga

Image result for the banner saga steam

In this game you follow the story of a caravan of Vikings. It’s inspired by Norse mythology. This is a game I just couldn’t get into. It is made really well, the story is solid, I just don’t know why I don’t like it. But I’ll rate it fairly and give it like 7/10. It’s not a bad thing at all, it just wasn’t for me.

The Bard’s Tale

Image result for the bards tale steam

Wont launch at all, waste of time and money. 0/10

Bastion

Image result for bastion steam

Bastion is an action adventure game. It’s narrator driven and about the character “Kid” who is collecting shards to rebuild a home base. It features plenty of challenging levels and the artwork is really pretty. I think this game is a lot of fun. So, I’ll give it an 8/10.

Ben There, Dan That

Image result for ben there dan that steam

This is a point and click adventure game with silly dialogue and a cute art style. I thought it was quite entertaining, and it provided a fair challenge when figuring out how to use items and combining them for such. I’ll give it a 6/10.

Besiege

Image result for besiege steam

Besiege is like a sandbox hybrid kind of game. You have levels that you go through, but in each level you build a war machine, or vehicle, to finish the level. You need to be able to navigate it through the level and destroy whatever the target is. It’s a really fun game, but it can be frustrating at times. I’ll give it 8/10.

Betrayer

Image result for betrayer steam

This is a stealthy adventure game. Most of the world is black and white, with some red details. There’s also a different world you can and will have to switch to, to solve puzzles. It’s quite challenging but I think it’s a great game. I’ll give it an 8/10.

(A) Birds Story

Image result for a birds story steam

This is a short, unvoiced game. It’s made by the developers of To The Moon. It follows the story of a boy and his bird and it’s so so sad. It’s a short but sweet experience and I would really recommend it, especially if you enjoyed To The Moon. 8/10.

Black The Fall

Image result for black the fall steam

This is a puzzle platforming game. It looks really nice, and it plays well. It’s set in a dystopian communistic world where you basically are trying to escape from everything. I think it’s quite good.. It’s not my favorite but it’s a solid game. I’ll give it a 6/10.

Blackguards

Image result for blackguards steam

This is a tactical role playing game. I first thought it would be a generic RPG, but every fight is made on a grid and there’s no free movement like in the games I usually play. The story is quite interesting, and it’s not a badly made game. It does feel a bit slow though but it’s solid. I’ll give it a 7/10.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

Image result for blazblue calamity trigger steam

This is like 80% anime, 20% game. It just was too much talking and too many cut scenes for my taste.. It’s probably great for someone who is into those kind of games, but I’m just not. So for me it’s a 1/10.

Something I’m looking forward to: Atomic Heart

atomic-heart_w1010.jpg

I’ve basically just been blabbering about the Bioshock games for the past month to both friends and internet friends and it’s probably driving them crazy.. So it doesn’t help their case that there’s a game in development that gives people serious Bioshock vibes. It’s a game developed by a Russian company called Mundfish, and the game itself is called Atomic Heart.

The game is a shooter (FPS as it’s called), set in an alternative universe where the Soviet Union is at its peak. There’s automatons and other hecking creepy creatures and it both scares and excites me at the same time. I’d definitely recommend checking out the trailer below if you’re interesting in those kind of games. I can’t wait for it to be released, honestly. It’s just a shame that it doesn’t have any specific dates just yet, but hopefully soon enough. And hopefully I can afford it when it’s released.

Have you played the Bioshock games? Do you get a Bioshock vibe from this? Let me know! I know a lot of people over at reddit (r/gaming) were very excited when the trailer was posted, that’s where I first read about it too.

What to do on a weekend

This weekend everyone had time off on both Sunday and Monday so it has been quite the long weekend overall. As I’m still recovering from surgery I’m pretty much restricted from leaving the house still, but I can at least enjoy the weather out on the.. porch? Veranda? I don’t know what it’s called in English. I spend part of my day sitting outside, having a burger and some soda for lunch, because I haven’t had that in ages. I also spent some time reading a book called Rapture, based on the Bioshock games series. It counts as an official prequel. I talked about how much I love Bioshock in my April summary post. The book basically shows you how the city of Rapture came to be. I think it’s quite interesting so far, will post a review once I finish it.

Overall I just had a really relaxed weekend, spent it cuddling the cats and just enjoying the sunshine for once. It was a tiny bit windy but it really helped keeping me from getting completely fried by the sun. What have you done over the weekend? Anything exciting? Also did you have Monday off too?
